Raw Pet Food for Cats, Healthy Diet?
I do not own a dog so I am more interested in learning about it for cats. I recently ordered Wild Kitty raw cat food and one of my cats just loves it. However, it is not sold in my area and costs a lot – up to almost $50 just to ship for the raw frozen though it is free shipping for the freeze dried.
Also – I read that the chicken kind of Wild Kitty came up positive for salmonella during a random federal inspection in February 2007 and that salmonella can have wicked effects not just on the animal(s) but on the human handling them.
So – what are the options for GOOD nutritious food, meaning healthier than store bought junk. I have read up on this and have read that pets now have more health problems due to all these carbs and all this junk in the basic pet food, that there is a ton of byproducts, like the parts of other deceased animals, including ones who died from various diseases. Any idea on healthy diets for cats that is also cost effective? Raw? Organic? Best Kind?
I am a cat person, I do rescue and have had my kitties on holistic diets for 10 years.
Raw would be so great *in the wild*, but in real life, as you’ve learned, there are all kinds of issues with contaminations and keeping the food fresh. Plus, it’s just plain cost and convenience prohibitive.
I spoke with another rescuer in Florida who wanted to be totally raw, but they had such issues with power outages during storms that she just couldn’t stay with it. A Golden Retriever rescuer in Virginia found it costly to ship and hard to keep enough on hand for all her Goldens.
I’ve tried lots of holistic brands. Since you’re asking for other options, I’d say, try out my favorite, Life’s Abundance. It’s done by a place called HealthyPetNet and has been around for 9 years.
I’ve also really like Canidae (for dogs) and Felidae (for cats), although the pets don’t seem to like the taste as much as Life’s Abundance. Also Wysong and Solid Gold are good but you have to find a natural foods store that stocks them. (Life’s Abundance is shipped to your door).
Whatever you choose, take a look at the video on the website below. “Do You Know What’s In Your Pet’s Food” It’s the only thing like it on the web and it will educate you about pet foods. Go holistic, that’s the only way.

raw food flu

Are vomiting and diarrhea associated with growing conjunctivitis?
My roommate showed signs of pink eye yesterday, a slight swelling and discharge, very red sclera, the left eye only. A few days before she complained of pain in the mastoid process, which is red and swollen, but he was gone by the time they were demonstrating symptoms of pink eye. Today woke up with extreme abdominal pain followed by vomiting and diarrhea. She also seems to have a low grade fever and sweats. There seems no respiratory tract symptoms top. Could this be a manifestation of adenovirus in different places? A case of coincidence of pink eye and stomach flu? I do not think that is food poisoning - we ate the same thing yesterday and I am quite well (except for premium almost constant hand washing). Any thoughts (other than go to the doctor - who can not get in until tomorrow)?
It has nothing to do with the red eye. But she could have given pink eye touching herself their eyes after touching or blowing your nose. Pink eye is caused by the same germs that cause colds and easy to administer to your car if you do not wash their hands frequently. It sounds like you have a stomach bug or something just take something for diarrhea and eat very lightly because of vomiting. Ginger ale, jello, stuff like that. No products milk ...

raw food philosophy

To what extent the practice of philosophy requires basic needs have been met?
To be clear, How do you do philosophy without food on the table, while there is shooting occurring in a war zone, or even if one is mentally ill? In addition to the intelligence or the raw talent for philosophy, if you do not have basic levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs met, it is impossible to get into the philosophy of the depth and level we can aspire to? This idea of having essential "preprequisites" so that one can engage in philosophy has always been curious to me, but I could not shake the possible truth to this idea. Take Wittengenstein, at least when he gave away his inheritance, you know that the stability of what is to be rich, right? I understand that the relationship between the origins of the aristocratic and political philosophy in ancient Greece. They're not philosophers aristocrats. Gee, I see your point, but I meant to professional philosophers or serious philsophy that is publishable quality.
I think it overgeneralised Maslow's hierarchy. Most people will find the greatest satisfaction in life, if they meet all levels in the general order presented. However, I believe that Maslow does not take into account some aspects of human nature. One end is individual psychology. Some people can overcome a serious lack of security needs and still be auto-updated. Another can not have more needs physiological reached, but still have high regard. To answer your questions: It always depends on the person. There is no test of truth, never will be, nor must exist. It is very well possible that the best philosopher who never met might not be able to keep a job, do not eat well, can not manage money, not matter to bathe, can not maintain a good relationship with a partner, and spends as much time doing extreme sports as possible. My opinion is: The level of self-actualization can only be subjectively defined and not defined by someone else for that individual.

raw food twins

What do you feed your 1 year old?
Yes, food I know….. but I want to know what kind of snacks do you feed your 1 year old? I have twins and they will be 1 next week. They are starting to eat table food a little better now, but not good enough to be eating a raw carrot. I just want some ideas for healthy snacks for in between meals. I have been feeding them snacks like crackers, cheese and raisens, but I am looking for some new ideas.
Hi – avoid salt – you can actually damage your child’s kidneys. Also avoid hot spices. Other spices in small amounts (like garlic, nutmeg, peppermint, mild ginger) are fine, subject to 4 day rule (one new food or spice introduced to your child’s diet in morning or at lunchtime every day for 4 days and watch over 4 days to make sure no allergic reactions or problems – most reactions happen within 1/2 hour to few hours of first ingestion, which is why no later than noon is better as easier to get medical help – but some reactions arise only with cumulative exposure and do take up to 4 days to show up – if you want to be extra careful, do 8 days). Avoid sugar and too many sweets as these will mess with your child’s metabolism and are actually damaging. Also avoid foods with lots of growth hormones like commercially grown meats and dairy products – it is worth your while to buy hormone free, all vegetarian feed, meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products – I also suggest pesticide free and cruelty free. Try and stick with pesticide free fruits and vegetables grown in USA or first-world countries as much as possible as well (better sanitation standards and regulations and controls on pesticide use). Avoid soy products, except possibly fermented soy products like miso and tempeh, as soy contain compounds which inhibit growth, including brain development. Keep your children well hydrated – small amounts of water and juice consumed steadily.

Raw Vegan Reading Material?
I am currently playing in the waters of the vegan raw food again! I know it's optimal, but want more and more information on my belt! I read the following books: raw Children: Children Transisitong to a raw diet, 12 steps to raw foods: How to end its addiction to cooked food, Health According to Scripture: Experiencing the joy of Health according to our Creator and the RAW LIFE: Being natural in an artificial world, Paul Nison. I know, but have not collected teak however, the study of China and 80/10/10 Diet. I also read on the site of the Diet of garden, and some rather crude blogs! What are the best books in your opinion? What made it easy to sprout? Did anyone try to plan meals 7 days e-book of the diet of garden? Thanks for any and all information!
I understand the desire information on: o). I must say that I also read all previous titles and found that all came to life after reading Alissa Cohen, who lives with live foods. I so desperately wanted to eat raw, live food because I have seen the health benefits, but all the books I read lacked the basic elements of the transition Alissa's book covers so well. Once I read his book and was not intimidated by recipes others, and I have. "I really enjoy the storm and Jinjee materials and someday I hope to get out of using my dehydrator, but for now is allowing all my family to love eating raw foods. I recommend Alissa's book and DVD if you want a starting point that eating raw foods allows quick and easy serving as cooked from the beginning. Indeed, Alissa has wonderful information on sprouting a variety of grains, nuts and seeds in his book with easy reference charts and recipes delicious. I have tried 7 days Garden Diet meal plan, but I discovered that my palate still wanted bread and cooked food in excess. I'll try to be your diet again soon, but for now I am using the meal plan 30 days in Alissa's book of the transition process. Hope this helps: o) All the best!

raw food health problems

Raw Diet – is this harmful or helpful?
I have read recently about the raw food diet where one eats only fresh items that have not been cooked. I was interested in trying this out but I do not want to injure my health. I have no real problem with meat and I am not trying to cure cancer as most people who adopt this diet seem to be trying to do.
I am just curious of anyone who has tried it, for how long, what were the effects, what weight loss if any, are they still on it, if so or not – why or why not?
Ok, I guess some people didn’t understand, and that is my fault. Not raw meat. A raw diet is almost vegan. No meat or dairy at all. Raw veggies & fruit, nuts, etc.
I have been wanting to go more raw than I already am. There are a lot of sites out there with SO many good-looking/sounding recipes. I can’t imagine any down-side when it comes to health. Raw food retains more of its vitamins. It does make more sense to eat foods in their natural state (that’s FOOD, not animals – there’s a difference) or at least close to it.
To make a lot of raw recipes you’ll need a good food processor, a good blender, and a good dehydrator.
Here are some links:

raw food cooking class los angeles

Does anyone know where I can find a Fresh Class in the Los Angeles area? It is about cooking with raw foods.?
My aunt told me about these classes that meet only once a month and teach you to eat with fresh raw foods. She said that you can’t tell that there isn’t any meat in the meals. After 30 days you go back to the class and learn more. Thats pretty much all I know about the class. Its called Fresh, I looked it up online but really couldn’t get much results that sounded like what I was looking for.
Why don’t you try a cookbook if you can’t find the classes?
Try Blossoming Lotus’ raw food “cook” book. It’s multi-awarded and was even cited by Martha Stewart.
They have a website of their restaurants in Hawaii and in Portland, Oregon.
I recommend it, it’s worth a try.

raw food fibre

What’s a good way to get myself to poop?
For the past few weeks I’ve been sick due to food getting backed up in my body.
I can barely eat anything on some days, and I’m suffering from stomach aches and nausea constantly, all due to the fact that the food won’t leave my body.
I’ve been taking raw fiber that I bought, and it helped for a little, but it’s no longer helping me and I need a way to fix this fast! Can anyone please help?
I’ve been to a doctor, and disease wise there’s nothing wrong with me. I’ve went through blood tests and all, but I’m going to see a specialist for my stomach soon.
A few weeks? If fiber isn’t helping then you definitely need to get in to see a doctor, you could have an obstruction in your bowel. It’s just not normal to have these symptoms for that amount of time without any relief.

raw food treats

Cat worms can be a problem. There are two main types. The roundworm is normally limited to kittens. Once treated, it won’t return. You know if they have it, as they vomit them up. It looks like they had a meal of spaghetti. The other common worm is tapeworm. This appears as tiny grains of rice in the stools. Initially they will move, but they die quite quickly when exposed to the air. Then the colour changes from white to yellowy.
It is generally considered that tapeworms are picked up from cats eating animals which are infected with tapeworm. But I disagree. It is my opinion that every single health problem, including fleas and worms are a direct result of a compromised immune system. If your cat has a good healthy immunity, the worms will be in the quantity which is natural. Bowel flora is totally natural. Some worms are beneficial. It’s the proliferation which is unhealthy.
When cats are fed a diet of processed food, this is not easily digested. It hangs up in pockets of the intestines, creating perfect opportunities for the worms to breed to excess. Raw food, on the other hand, digests quickly. It moves through the bowel quickly, creating little opportunity for the worms to do anything that is not normal and natural.
Getting to the cause of any problem and dealing with that is so much more efficient that simply dealing (mostly badly) with the effect. A raw meat and bones diet is one that cats evolved on, long before we arrived on the scene. It’s the optimum diet for a healthy immune system. It cannot be improved upon.

What kind of beans can feed a vegan eat?
Uncooked oatmeal not hurt your stomach? I tried the oatmeal bad (not "quick" oats) in the super-rich chocolate (peanut butter, but can not prove) refrigerator vegan cookies, and ... oh. that kind of pain. Simply live with this feeling? or have a stomach of steel now? Or are raw vegans can not eat, even the steel cut oats, as it has some minimal processing? Oh, that's a silly question, right? raw vegans can eat oats, as long as not cooked oatmeal, right? raw vegans eat cereal for breakfast? (besides raw food energy bars, I mean), like corn flakes? or something? puffed wheat, then? shredded wheat is heated in the process? well, you can have cookies Triscuts? or shredded wheat cereal? I'm curious! Thanks! I suppose you must find a raw vegan MB, forum or chat room type thingie. Maybe I will. Because the poster suggested!
Not likely who are able to eat any cereal or cracker products because the food is cooked at some point. Raw Oats are fine for you to eat. Stealing cut or rolled oats are both a raw product. Even quick-cooking oats are raw but not cut a very small size. Your stomach can damage the grains digest raw foods, especially raw ones are hard on the digestive system, no warmth to start breaking the food down as with cooked foods. Above all if this is a new diet. Give your body time to adjust and remember to drink plenty of water all foods high in crude fiber present he is eating. Other options Crude grain sprouted whole grains such as wheat berries or rye berries. You need to sprout them soft enough to eat. Sprouting also increases their nutritional value. Sprouting requires dry whole grains soaked for a day or two and then save them in a container damp, dark, with a mesh top for air circulation. It is not unsimilar to the way they grow alfalfa sprouts. For any bread recipe sprouted wheat Berry and you should find instructions on how to germinate the wheat grains. Outbreak is not cooking and does not require heating. You can find salad recipes wheat berries. Most of these recipes are cooked wheat seed, but can adapt to the use sprouted wheat seed instead of boiled wheat seeds. Remember that if you really want to be a vegan raw foods, you will have to go to great effort to make your interesting diet. Experiment with dried beans to soak to soften. I know you can use dried chickpeas soaked to soften enough to grind into a paste of mashed chickpeas. You may have some luck just to soak the beans are soft enough to eat in salads.

Fat Burning Furnace is a weight loss and fitness program developed by Rob Poulos. FBF has quickly become one of the most popular diet systems on the net. Even though, Rob Poulos doesn’t have any formal credentials, he managed to create a highly effective diet system that has received glowing reviews from people all over the world
But, what makes FBF so successful? By following this diet:
- You won’t have to subject your body to restrictive diets.
- You will be able to eat delicious food and still lose weight.
- It won’t drain your energy and make you feel tired all day, like most other diets out there.
- You will boost your immune system.
- Most participants experience a weight loss reduction of 26 pounds in only 7 weeks. (Of course, the number of pounds you are going to lose depends on many factors such as your, your age, your current weight, your metabolic rate and your genetics).
- You will lose real fat and not water or muscle mass.
- There are no specialty foods to buy, which means that this diet won’t really cost you anything.
- You will never be hungry.
So, is this a miracle diet that anybody can use in order to lose weight? The answer is no.
If you are interested in building huge muscles, if you hate resistance training methods and if you hate working out in general then this diet and fitness system is not for you.
So what can you expect from FBF?
Overall, FBF will turn your body into a fat burning machine with just 45 minutes of targeted exercises per week and without having to starve yourself.
I believe that the main reason why this system has become so successful is the fact that its creator, Rob Poulos, used to be overweight himself. Sure, he doesn’t have tons of degrees, but at least he knows what he is talking about.
Most other “experts” usually teach things about weight loss that sound good in theory, but may be completely impractical. It’s much better to take an advice from someone who knows what you are going through. Someone who has used numerous fad diets and after much trial and error has finally found a solution to his problem.
Fat Burning Furnace doesn’t promise you any miracles. This program requires a lot of commitment on your part. If you want to lose weight you will have to make a sincere effort.
Now pay close attention-

raw food broccoli salad

Mostly everybody recognizes salads as excellent choice of food for healthy weight loss. Not only are they low on calories, they are also very easy to make. With a proper salad diet, you could easily curb the additional intake of unnecessary calories with your body does not need. You could also substitute it for a lot of unnecessary food which you tend to eat.
Health professionals and doctors advise:
o Consuming more vegetables, fruits and low fat dairy foods
o Reducing on foods that are high in cholesterol, saturated fat, and total-fat
o Consuming more fish, poultry, whole grain products, and nuts
o Consuming less sweets and red meat
o Consuming foods that are rich in potassium, magnesium, and calcium
Note that a raw salad is not included in the listing above. Not all salads give you healthy weight loss.
Consider this:
A salad of chicken filled with cheese, celery, and chicken contains over one thousand calories and about sixty six grams of fat. However, a charcoal-grilled chicken salad with fat free dressing has only 150 calories and 3 grams fat.
Tomato, cucumber, and onion salad:
This is a very easy one to make. Cut the tomatoes into slices. Slice the onions, parsley and cucumbers. Combine all the three ingredients together. Dress with a little of olive oil, apple cider vinegar, pepper and salt.
This is a wonderful, healthy salad and you can put it together in minutes. It also looks good, and people really enjoy eating foods that look great.
It is the “salad dressings” that make the difference between a nutritious and healthy salad and the one filled with extra calories. It might taste good but it does not help your goal of healthy weight loss.
So what does a salad that is healthy contain?
Salads that are healthy contain a mixture of vegetables that always include dark-leafy greens like spinach, green lettuce, and fresh herbs. Don’t forget, the darker the leaf, the more nourishment it has. You can safely add shredded carrots, tomatoes, scallions, broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, baked vegetables or other herbs.
However, no sauces or salad dressings are allowed if you’re planning to cut down on the calories. To include some healthy fat, dress your salad with a chopped nuts or little avocado. Be cautious about the bits of healthful but high calorie food and use only small amounts.
Undoubtedly, salad dressing can ruin your weight loss program if you use too much of the wrong variety.
For a low calorie salad, dress it with a tablespoon of light vinaigrette or a little healthy olive oil. Go for your favorite olive oil, lemon and a little raw honey for healthy salad dressing.
Follow these things mentioned above to create a tasty salad that is fulfilling, low in calories, fiber rich, and full of nutrients. It will encourage healthy weight loss and develop your health and wellness.

raw food cancer cure
does a cure to cancer exist? hyperimmune milk? jerry brunetti?
I came across this video of Jerry Brunetti who advises on what food to eat for good health.
He says that he overcame his own cancer by giving his antigen to the cows as a vaccine, and drinking the raw milk… and something else like that…
Anyone know anymore about this?
here’s the video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7798117152905143532
if u listen from about 30mins if u want, although it’s a long video…
thanks to everyone for your answers…
Now, where in the video does Jerry Brunetti claim that hyperimmune milk ‘cures’ cancer?
I have had the video, that you link to, for about a year now and have watched it several times, there is so much useful information on those video’s.
Firstly, Jerry found a Merck{A pharmaceutical company, used this technique prior to Flemings Penicillin} Patent online for hyperimmune milk, he used hyperimmune milk as one of the tools for fighting cancer, not to ‘cure’ it. Brunetti realised from his own research and reading numerous peer-reviewed studies, that viruses have and are associated with many {if not all} cancers.
The hyperimmune milk consists of antibodies, this is great for stopping diarhoea and stomach/GI problems. But the cytokines{chemical messengers that white blood cells use to communicate} in the milk are far more significant, as they direct the immune system to attack such viruses that are providing an unnecessary load on a weak cancer patient. This is similar to allopathic IL-2 therapy and other attempts to augment and strenghten the immune system.
Brunetti noticed from blood tests that he had epstein-bar virus {kissing virus}, herpes, and others, that is why he used hyperimmune milk.
Cancer is a difficult and serious disease, and yes there are many quacks out there, and liers whom have vested interests.
But Jerry Brunetti is not one of them, from his video’s it is obvious he references and provides as much scientific evidence as possible to support his claims, which quacks do not do, he is also not trying to sell you anything{which is said to be a hallmark of a quack}, not even supplements, he recommends food sources for the macro/micronutrients that have numerous benefits.
Does a cancer cure exist?
That is a difficult and sensitive question to ask. But what i can say is that there is no such thing as an absolute cure for anything, for instance some people die of staphylococcus infections, MRSA, even though we have a ‘cure’ – antibiotics. It depends on a myriad of things, including psychological state of mind {i don’t mean placebo effect}. When a Doctor tells you that you have a few months to live, most people believe that and accept death, without even giving alternative medicine a try. The smart one’s that keep fighting, have the right mindset, and most find a way to cause ’spontaneous remission’ for cancer {that doctors and scientists cannot and refuse to explain}.
But there are many alternative therapies that are superior to chemo-surgury-radiotherapy. Look into Electromedicine – especially Rife Technology, Laetrile B17, Alkali Diet/water, aerobic oxygen, Nutrition{one of the most important, have scienitific blood tests done to test for dificiencies, ect. from a Lab, like Biolab in the UK, but they are everywhere, easy to find a local one}, Hyperimmune milk, Vitamin C therapy {orthomolecular medicine, 1-2g per day strengthens immunity}, DCA{said to restart aerobic respiration in cancer cells by activating shut-down mitochondria}, DIM. DIM has been shown on recent peer-reviewed studies to prevent cancer and arrest it or cause ’spontanious remission’ of cancer.
Remember no one is all bad nor all good, the most difficult thing that one has to do is filter information from quacks and the vested interest of the medical establisment, FDA, pharmaceutical companies, and any other agency associated with them. Somewhere in all the lies between the two extremes, is the truth, it takes research and knowledge to get what you are looking for. Do not trust everything you hear or learn, question things look up the original studies, be critical of them, critique them, and come to your own conclusions, do not be a victim of dogmatic thinking from the TV, Media, and medical establishent/pharmaceutical companies, nor by quacks.
I am looking for the procedure to produce hyperimmune milk, personalised and unique to the patient. I can’t find it yet, and found this webpage. Jerry Brunetti does mention MircoLactin for arthitis, and how its used alot in Japan.
I would reccommend you to watch Jerry Brunetti’s video called A Personal Odyssey Nutrition and Health’, this explains in more detail on steps to take if you have cancer, including improving your chances of success with conventional allopathic chemo therapy, such as IMPATH labs to test which chemo drug is efficacious against your cancer, by means of a biopsy and lab testing. Instead of letting your Dr. do some trial and error with chemo drugs; would a quack do this, would a quack even think of recommending conventional medicine?
We have all be conditioned from birth to a certain way of thinking, a dogmatic way of thinking. Skepticism is a tool of science, it is necessary, but ignorance is not. We should test and verify such claims not ignore them and insult, and label people quacks because they have a different perpective than you. Jerry Brunetti suffered from an agressive form of non-hodgekins lymphoma, and ‘perserved his life’ by alternative medicine alone.
By the way, PlasmaWarrior, Herbal remedies do work and have been shown using vigourous double blind clinical trials to be superior to placebo, and dare i say, in some cases superior to drugs. Dozens of remedies have been analysed, Professor Edzard Ernst the UK’s first complementary medicine professor of Exeter University/Peninsula Medical School, has analysed the clinical trials, and has found with his team that the following herbs work using vigorous criteria, they have been called the SuperHerbs, and include:
Super Herbs
St, John’s Work – Helps with Mild/Moderate depression
Black Cohosh – Combats some of the effects of menopause
Devil’s Claw – Acts an a anti-inflammatory, and joint pain
Saw Palmetto – Can relieve an enlarged prostate, and help men urinate better
Garlic – Lowers cholesterol and blood pressure
Hawthorne – Helps with heart/cardiovascular conditions, like Angina Pectoris
Horse Chestnut – Helps with the symptoms of varacous veins.
Ginkgo Biloba – Solid proof, that it improves cognition and memory
These have been proven scientifically, with vigourous clinical trials to work. [Source: BBC Alternative Medicine - Herbs]

raw food gas bloating

With all the nonsense we’re seeing now with yogurt companies developing their own strains of supposedly “healthy” bacteria, I thought it was time to clear the air and give you the goods. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials from yogurt companies with their bacteria called “B.L Regularis” and “Casei Defensis.”
Just look at the name of these probiotics. Do you think anything in nature would exist with such ridiculous names – “regularis” implying that it will make you regular and “defensis” implying that it will keep you from getting sick!
I mean it’s absolutely criminal! Remember, if it doesn’t occur in nature, your body is better off without it. Probiotic supplements are simply supplements that contain “friendly” bacteria that you want in the digestive tract in large numbers.
Prebiotics [ie. fructo-oligossacharides (FOS), short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate, and inulin] contain the nutrients that these bacteria need to grow and thrive.
There are over 400 different types of these friendly bacteria in your colon that serve to complete the digestion of undigested foods, keep pathogenic bacteria and yeasts in check, add bulk to your stool, and produce vitamin K and some of the B vitamins. Until recently, the importance of a healthy and balanced gut flora (bacteria) has been neglected, but thankfully much research has shown its importance not only to the health of your colon, but to your overall health.
Dysbiosis, the imbalance between healthy and unhealthy flora in the colon, is very common in today’s society considering how much we abuse our digestive system. If you ever experience intestinal gas, bloating, stomach upset, allergies, or constipation, then you will definitely benefit from probiotics.
The key probiotic bacteria that you want to look for are bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. Within these categories are many strains but the most helpful for the health of your colon are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus faecium.
Naturally, yogurts and kefir are good sources of probiotics. However, since I don’t endorse the consumption of dairy, the best alternative is to find a high quality probiotic oral supplement. A good probiotic supplement should contain a wide array of bacterial strains, with the 3 mentioned above being the most prominent. Most importantly, ensure that your probiotic supplement contains a suitable number of microorganisms.
In general, choose a probiotic supplement that contains anywhere from 6 to 10 billion microorganisms and take the dosage once per day. Good probiotic supplements will also often contain adequate amounts of prebiotics to promote the proliferation of healthy bacteria. In most cases, it’s best to take your probiotic on an empty stomach. I find just before bed works best for me.
Incorporating probiotics into your diet will make marked improvements in your digestion, elimination, and overall health. You will notice your bowel movements improve in consistency and regularity, you will help lessen the risk for the development of allergies, and you will dramatically improve the health of your colon and the rest of your body.
These friendly bacteria are truly amazing!

Uses for Carrot, Apple, Vegetable Pulp from the Juicer???
I am on a 30 day juice fast (today is day 14) and I have been looking into ways to use the leftover pulp as it is a shame to waste it. I am a vegan and eat mainly raw foods. What can I make out of it?? I have recipes for burgers, bread, pates, col slaws, crackers, and croutons…anything else? How about raw cookies?? Des anybody have a recipe for those?
How about a juicer pulp bread recipe for the bread maker???? Can I just substitute pulp for flour?
Veggie Chili
This recipe will clean up the pulp left over from juicing.
* Soak 1 pound of dried kidney beans in 7 cups of water overnight.
* Drain the beans and replace the water.
* Add to beans: ½ cup zucchini pulp, 1/3 cup onion pulp, ½ cup bell pepper pulp, 1 cup tomato pulp, 4 garlic cloves, 1 tbs chili powder, 1 tbs basil, ½ tbs oregano, 1 tsp pepper, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cumin and 1 ½ cups tomato juice.
* Simmer for 4 hours.
Serves 8. Good for health and nutrition, especially general cleansing, blood pressure and skin.

raw food juliano

What are some good sites where I can read about the pros and cons of drinking coffee?
I heard [from Juliano The Raw Food Guru] that coffee itself is not bad for you, but the stuff we put in it is bad. Like the chemicals and pesticides we use for growing it, and the dairy & sugar we put in it. So I wanted to know the pros and cons of just drinking organic coffee [[I'd use nut milk and honey for sweetener.]] Thank you all in advance :]
There appears to be many of both!

My fiance got samonella food poisoning from eating raw oysters.?
His doctor said that everyone who lives in the same household with him need to be tested for samonella poisoning. Noone else ate the oysters except for me ( i had one) and I didnt get sick like he did. I understand why i should get checked, but does everyone else have to as well? Is is contagious bu just being next to the person infected?
I am not sure why the doctor want everyone to get checked for Salmonella. Does you fiance have a regular case of food poisoning (diarrhea, fever, cramps, etc)? This usually will last anywhere from 2-7 days and typically will resolve itself and does not require antibiotics. Of course, your fiance will be misserable for those days. Did the doctor prescribe any antibiotics?
Yes, he is contagious. Everytime he has diarrhea, he is passing millions and millions of salmonella. Unless you make sure he has the absolute best personal hygiene and religously clean the bathroom everytime he goes, there probably is some Salmonella floating around your house. You can easily pick this up. So I can see why he suggested testing everyone, but am still confused why. Yes, food poisoning is a miserable experience but it is not usually life threatening. Unless he has an invasive infection, meaning that the Salmonella has entered the blood stream and is now infecting other organs. This is serious and would require antibiotic therapy.

raw food sushi recipe

Are your dishes any / recipes / in trays etc … where the animal is eaten alive?
I just had a sudden craving for something to eat in your life, perhaps sadistic in theory, but this sushi Inari 'was not as good ... so maybe go beond raw fish? Anyone know of a dish? Please do not speak of living insects ... that's serious, but the real food.
This is a message Forwarded From: Jan Janus in MIT.EDU. PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THIS INFORMATION away. We have learned that at least several New York restaurants are participating in the horrible practice to serve what is called "Whole Live Lobster Sashimi. The lobster is apparent division in vivo, inside the medium, and eaten alive. The lobster is about 20 minutes to die, shrugging his claws the pain and suffering serious as he eats. This is a practice in Japan and other Asian countries (the justification for it in these restaurants U.S.), but is now illegal in some countries, like Australia, where lobsters are protected by legislation the rights of animals. The Scientists have shown that ALL fish and crustaceans feel pain. In fact, lobsters have a complex nervous system, and unfortunately not have an autonomic nervous system that at least allow them to go into shock. http://www.lobsterlib.com/fascinating.html # hurts please call the restaurant and its corporate headquarters to demand that they cease this cruel practice. I'm sure other restaurants participate in this, but Sushi Samba is the only one I know. http://www.sushisamba.com/top.html I spoke with the manager of Day Solorzano Evelyn and Leah, the assistant to the owner Shimon Bokovza. Both said it was a decision by the chef (who "reside" in the 245 Park Ave) but I'm sure * * the owner has the power to stop this. Thanks for your help! Jan INFO: Name of Restaurant: Sushi Samba Address: 245 Park Avenue. South Street crossing is 46, New York, 10003 (in addition to other branches in New York and U.S.) Phone: 212-475-9377 Manager Evelyn Solorzano day, Executive Chef (from which follow saying this is your decision): Hero Corporate Phone: 212-604-0600, extension 4942 (going to Leah, assistant deputy) Owner: Shimon Bokovza address companies: 37a W. 17th St., Suite 7E New York, New York, 10011 found this on a website ... SO: if you want to be completely cruel and participate in this particular form of cruelty to animals then you know where to go ... please, but do not forget in karma - hopefully not come back like a crab ... or perhaps we should expect that .!!!!

raw food headaches

I’ve been nauseas for the past three days, but w/o fever and only now and again w/ headache. What ails me?
I’m a 26-year-old student; I usually eat pre-packaged foods (nothing raw or fresh).
Nausea and headaches are symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency ……… other symptoms you may be suffering from are migraines, vomiting, fatigue and exhaustion, excessive sweating, irritability and moodiness, inability to think clearly, dizzy spells, loss of balance, insomnia and constipation, depression, tingling and prickling and numbing sensations in the outer extremities and even chest pains and heart palpitations !! Pretty freaky actually if you don’t realise the vitamin factor.
Eat more foods rich in this vitamin ie: skimmed milks and cheeses, fish and eggs…… if you are lactose intolerant or vegetarian then it is really important that you supplement your diet with a multi B complex tablet including all the B’s ie: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 – as they work best together. Any good chemist will be able to supply you with a multi B complex tablet.
The B complex of vitamins are essential for healthy neural, immune and digestive functioning. They are a water soluble group of vitamins and as such our bodies can neither store or produce them. Therefore, we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the consequences as you unfortunately are.
When our bodies are placed under extra stress ie: new job, new home, school studies or just life …. the B group of vitamins will usually be the first to get used up.
Try also cutting out or cutting right back vitamin B complex thieves such as caffeine, tea, alcohol, sodas and soft drinks and tinned foods ………….. antiobiotics, antidepressants, laxatives, diuretics, pencillin, aspirin and tobacco will all rob you of precious B complex vitamins.
You really do need to pay more attention to your health and vitality and try to focus on fresh and natural foods such as fresh fruits, green and leafy vegies and vegies, nuts and seeds, wholegrains and cereals, lean meats and fishes, skimmed milks and cheeses and low fat dairy and lots of fresh filtered water……… treat your body like a temple buddy, you are the only one who has to live there so at least make the best go of it that you can.
Be nice to you♥
Good Luck &
good health to you ♥

Does this sound like a good weight loss plan?
My New Years Resolution is to try and lose some weight, but quite frankly I’m a little clueless as to how to do that. I plan on joining a gym and eating healthier. Here’s my plan so far:
As far as healthy snack foods are concerned:
Almonds, natural unsalted nuts in general
Cottage cheese
String cheese
Yogurt
100 calorie popcorn
Whole wheat crackers
Raw vegetables
Unsalted pretzels
Fruit – apples, bananas, cherries, grapes, pineapple
I also plan on limiting my soft drink consumption to 1 diet soda/tea/coffee a day. (Not one of each, just one of those drinks a day).
As far as working out goes I plan on joining Fitness 19 and working out 2-3 times a week to start (increasing as I build stamina). How long should I work out? I was thinking 30 minutes a session but I was told that’s too much for a beginner. Any advice at all on foods to eat/how to properly work out would be AMAZING!! Thanks so much in advance.
Your snacks look healthy, but you mainly want to concentrate on your meals as a whole. Its better to have 5-6 meals a day than to have 3 meals and 2 snacks. Simply because you’d get a wider variety in each meal.
30min a session is fine. In the beginning you may just want to warm up for 5min, run/jog/bicycle for 15, cooldown for 5-10. It will be hard to jog for 20minutes straight if you’ve never done it before, but doable. Breaking it into 5 min jog, 1min walk would work as well. It’d keep your heartrate up and give you a moment to rest.

The United States of America…somehow the word ‘united’ encapsulates within itself the essence of the nation. It is a melting pot of cultures, a country made up of immigrants who came in waves from other countries, drawn by the lure of the land of opportunity. Each of these immigrant groups brought the uniqueness of their home country with them and all these combined to produce the smorgasbord which is American Cooking and Recipes today.
Spanning 52 states, and 5 time zones, the country is vast. American Recipes are also many in number and can be region specific or occasion centric or even particular to an ethnic group. Thus there is Cajun cooking, Tex Mex food, Japanese sushi bars, Indian ‘balti’ cuisine. There is corn on the cob and turkey with cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, roast goose with stuffing and flaming plum pudding for Christmas, Barbecued spareribs and hot dogs with coleslaw for July Fourth cookouts….the list of recipes that are quintessentially American is long and exhaustive.
American Recipes are largely region specific as well. However if one delves further into the origin of such recipes, one can see that it is largely dependant on the availability of fresh produce of that region. Thus Maine is synonymous with fresh lobsters that are often just steamed and dipped in melted butter. In fact the entire New England area consisting of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine and a few other states is renowned for clam and fish chowders, chased with generous wedges of Boston cream pie.
The New Orleans region is famous for its Creole cooking with fried catfish, fish gumbo, jambalaya and tart key lime pie for dessert. Again, produce and fish that is available in that particular region. The Mid West, the cattle producing belt of the United States is known for its hearty buffalo burgers and Barbecued ribs. And all the way down to the Florida Panhandle and beyond, fiery Tex Mex cuisine rules the roost and the taste buds with nachos, enchiladas, guacamole and salsa dips.
American recipes produced in the kitchens of American homes are largely healthy and hearty meals. Though there is a tendency to include meat as part of the regular diet, American Recipes incorporate a large amount of vegetables and fruits as well. Salads are de rigueur and desserts are primarily fruit based. In fact most of the cooking is healthy and low fat. Yet the average American tends to veer towards obesity and obesity is one of the biggest health problems plaguing the nation today.
On closer analysis we realize that this predilection towards unnatural weight gain is because of a dependence on pre cooked, pre packaged meals and fast food takeaways that are high on taste and convenience and low on nutrients and food value. Traditional cooking and American Recipes are gradually being relegated to the back seat. It is a matter of growing concern and dietitians across the country are vociferously advocating a return to the simple, healthy, homey food produced in the American kitchen using recipes that have been handed down from one generation to another. Ultimately the average American will need to return to his culinary roots, going back to the cooking and recipes that his grandmother used to make.
Roger Murray is a community writer who likes to experiment on various American cuisine. He likes to research on American cooking and list down popular American recipes to much delight of other community members.

raw food olives

Raw food question – Does anyone know of any drawbacks from eating wheat and oats in raw (kernel) form?
I’ve been milling the grains and adding the flower directly to water and whey protein. I also drink about a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil for the fat content.
It struck me that I could lower the glycemic rate of the grains by swallowing the kernels whole. It’s easier than it sounds, and my stomach seems to be able to handle the extra work.
I’m also trying to find a way to optimize the carbohydrates from legumes without having to cook them or add a lot of unnecessary ingredients.
Before anyone thinks I’m a nut, I do eat for pleasure sometimes too, it’s just that I’m trying to view food as fuel and I’m trying to optimize its ingestion.
Raw food question – Does anyone know of any drawbacks from eating wheat and oats in raw (kernel) form? They would just pass undigested. In order to get the benefits they need to be ground up and added to foods. I don’t think they’d need to be cooked but I have never thought about this way of ingesting grains. Try ground golden flaxseed …

Did you know that traditional Japanese cooking is one of the healthiest in the world? This is why the Japanese have a low rate of diseases, especially those which pertain to the digestive system. More and more people are trying to learn the art of traditional Japanese cooking not only because it is healthy, but also because it offers an exciting and refreshing taste.
What constitutes a traditional Japanese meal? If you often visit Japanese restaurants, or has been invited to the home of a Japanese national, you might be familiar with the most basic of their food: miso soup is always served first; a warm soup to whet your appetite, you can add vegetables into the soup to make it even more healthy. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, and its rich taste makes it complement any type of Japanese food. Best served when hot, miso soup is a traditional Japanese food that has passed the test of time.
To make the miso soup, you will need three cups of dashi and a quarter of a cup of miso; a cubed slice of tofu that is one inch long and half inch wide, and two teaspoons of chopped green onions. Place the dashi in a saucepan and wait until it almost boils. The miso should be in a sieve, dipped in the dashi until soft, and slowly pushed out of the sieve, until dissolved completely. Add the tofu last, and serve with green onions.
The best thing about traditional Japanese cooking is that it is very simple, and yet very healthy and tasty.
