Raw Foodist seeking best Dehydrator?

Hi Im preparing to become completely raw and I want to make a one time investment on the best dehydrator.. Id be preparing meals for 2 people but Ill also be entertaining quite abit for up to 5 extra quest and possible more around holidays.. I was looking at the excalibur 3900 but without the proper knowledge of dehydrators Im scared to spend that much money.. I also came across Vegikiln 8 tray dehydrator, which has a more friendly price and seems to be the same as the excalibur.. but now Im wondering how I make raw bread loafs in these dehydrators since theres not enough room between trays and the trays double as the door so you need all of them in.. So my question is what is the best dehydrator for me to make ALL raw foods and for 2-10 people?

Excalibur are typically thought to be the best dehydrators. They have horizontal air flow, which most people like versus vertical dehydrators. VegiKiln is a newer brand that also has a horizontal design. The below link has a comparison chart of the Excalibur versus VegiKiln, but in general, the Excalibur has larger drying trays and larger fans (which makes drying faster), The VegiKilns are less expensive but do not have the brand of Excalibur.

What vegetbales, or cooking techniques, I should try?

I'm trying to eat healthier, but I am friends with lots of vegetables / fruits (VERY discerning diner.) Do not want to be like, but I can not seem to find things I like. I have curiosity about fruits or vegetables that may have a flavor similar to the one I like and, or any good advice that will help me in finding food you enjoy! What I eat: white potatoes, carrots when cooked in soup, apples, bananas and oranges. I tried and do not like: raw, peaches premium (Ataulfo mango), lettuce, raw onion things cooked tomatoes, melons, raw, raw and cooked pumpkin, watermelon, strawberries, peppers .. I'm split on whether I like pineapple and grapes .. have had where I wanted, and I have been in love. Vegetables **

Since you like potatoes and apples, you'll like jicama. It is a root vegetable that are normally associated with Mexico food. Since you like carrots, you'll like parsnips. They look like white carrots but are much sweeter. You can add to a stew or cooked and mashed mashed potatoes. Have you tired peas? Both are sweet and most of those who not like vegetables like them. Although not as sweet, very early English (green) peas are very good, too. Since you like apples, it is likely that as pears. They have the consistency and taste similar. Because, like oranges, you may as mandarins, tangerines, clementines, blood oranges, ugli (or ugly) fruit and tangelo. You may like grapefruit with sugar (or a substitute such as Splenda) or salt. Try frozen white grape and eaten as a snack. Not as many types of tomatoes and lettuce could not have tried them all. Iceberg lettuce is less offensive and Boston. tomatoes have fewer seeds than most other tomatoes. Sometimes people do not like tomatoes really object to seed more than anything. Try to Rome. It is easy to reach the seeds. Many people do not like onions, so it is not unusual. Many do not mind the taste the onion (green onion). Some people only like the top, while others only like the background. Worth a try, because it adds variety to your palate. You do not mention corn. It is tasty and can be used in many ways. It is also sweet. roasted corn on the cob is a wonderful summer gift. Bananas are version with banana starch. They are often made in chips. Fresh pineapple is a real pleasure. Try it. You may find you like nuts. Drying intensifies the sweetness.

Is home made raw BARF food the same as pre bought raw BARF food?

It’s Dr Ian Billinghursts blend that he sells here are the ingredients.
Chicken, finely ground chicken bone, beef liver, whole egg, cultured kefir, seasonal vegetables selected from broccoli, celery, spinach, carrot, ground flax seed, bok choy, dried alfalfa leaf powder, beef kidney, beef heart, unbleached beef tripe, seasonal fruit selected from apple, pear, grapefruit, orange, dried kelp powder, garlic, capsicum.
Does it sound alright to feed to my puppy, he prefers it to homemade BARF but I’m not sure.

It sounds to be a good healthy diet. The ingredient list is good.

I’m sure Dr Billinghurst does prefer to sell his product instead of you making your own BARF. He doesn’t make one cent of profit if you make your own.

A question for the raw foodists….?

I am a vegan who is interested in the whole raw food diet, but I have a few questions. I understand the obvious benefit of eliminating as many processed foods from your diet as possible and eating a plant based diet. I don’t understand, though, why raw veggies are preferable to cooked? What would be the difference if I ate raw veggies verses a stir fry made of those same vegetables? Also, if you are a raw food vegan, does that mean you can’t eat things like rice, beans, and pasta since they’ve been cooked? What about tofu?

they can eat some rices but they cant be cooked
and they’ve made their own versions of pasta and other delicious foods

I'm very discerning diner?

Hi, im 15 and am a very demanding diner. I do not know what happens if phycological or physical or what. I like all kinds of sauces: tomato sauce, salsa tomato, ranch, salsa, sauces, or anything. i eat pasta with salt and olive oil. I do not like any type sandwiches or hamburgers or cheeseburgers. I can not eat food with some type of meat and touch the bread, I can. That includes many Mexican dishes (tacos, burritos) just thinking about it makes me sick. I can eat raw vegetables as lettuce, carrots, celery, tomatoes. I can eat salad without dressing, only the simple green. I can eat plain meat, sometimes with barbecue sauce, but I clean most of it off. I do not like any food mashed up like mashed potatoes or lentils. I can eat almost all fruits ... In any case, how I can get to eat more food? Sometimes when I try to gag and have to spit. Do I need a phycologist or I can fix myself? Thanks

I think it's all psychological. Just eat the food and stop thinking about how it feels in the mouth and how it is constructed. Once you let these feelings persist and actually eat the food, since they have a real appreciation for food. Do not want to go through all your life not enjoying food. But if it can not and still is definitely bothering me like to go for help. There's really nothing wrong with what they're eating anyway. All this is healthy and you get the nutrition they need, but there are many more food out there to try to enjoy without worrying about how to do or what your contact or not. Good luck.

Is it ok to feed a 13week old Pibull a raw food diet and dry biscuits?

Can i feed him biscuist in the morning and a mixture of raw foods in the afternoon?
Any recommendatiosn fro Pitbulls?
Please only positive answers, no “dnt feed him raw food”
by “Raw Diet” i mean raw meat, raw veggies and eggs etc.

A raw diet is great, as long as it is the proper raw diet. There are many websites that can help you. Also, vets usually know NOTHING about nutrition (which is why the foods they recommend are crap like Iams and Purina), so if you want to talk to someone contact a canine nutritionist. A 13 week old puppy should be eating three times a day, and you can switch that to two times a day anywhere between 4 and 6 months. There is also no need for a dog that young to be getting treats of any kind unless you are using them as training treats (which since you said biscuits in the morning I am guessing you are not)

Raw Food Suggestions?

I’m trying to get into raw food, but I’m having trouble. Is there any type of rice I can eat? How about crackers? And cereal? As well, I’m trying to lose some weight. Does anyone have any raw recipes for weight loss?

The only way to eat grains on a raw diet is if you soak and/or sprout them. If you have a dehydrator, you can make flax crackers. However, many people on raw food diets actually gain weight because they eat so many nuts and avocados.

I would suggest that instead of a raw diet, you just eat a lot of raw vegetables, a few pieces of fruit a day, and then add some cooked food. Eat some whole grains, sweet potatoes, and beans.

I was a kid seminar.the said it was better to give our dog raw meat, processed foods does not preserve ... I have always fed my 6yr old staffy, dog canned food, and feel I've done the wrong thing.i also have a puppy of 5 months, and she is in canned foods, should not change i diet?

As I said: Canned often very bad for your dog. The raw food diet, when done correctly, the better. But raw food is more complicated than just give your dog raw meat so you do not, if you have not done your research. What you should do is choose a healthy dry food as the natural balance or welfare and let to use the wet food. Only need to post a time.

I am getting Braces in a while TIPS?????+ i have questions?

1) what are good types of food to take to school and woke get stuck in your braces

1)well everything i eat gets stuck in my braces, when u go to the dentist they will give u a mini toothbrush. so u can use that to brush ur teeth with after you eat.

2)umm…i don’t have any recipes exactly but if you wanna make something you can go on this website: www.ehow.com and type in what you wanna make.

3) When you get ur braces the best thing you should eat is soft foods such as yougurt, jello, pudding, and any other soft food. when you eat an apple or anything hard ur brackets will break and u will need braces longer, so the best thing is to eat something soft.

4)when u get ur braces, i dont think u should eat raw corn. it will make ur brackets fall out and u will have to wear braces longer. u can have raw corn once ur doen w/ ur braces.

5)it doesnt hurt when they apply the brackets on. it will just feel awakward for a few days, but when they put the rubber bands that go across ur teeth people say they hurt (i dont kno for sure b/c im not at that stage yet).

Braces can be a pain, but afterwards ur teeth will look so straight and nice.

Please … Supporters of raw foods only – a question for you?

I am very rough on the current time, but family and friends are not fully on board and make food that I can not eat. The way to do front / soft handle situations that, without hurting his feelings ... and when you go on vacation and be with friends and family, how your diet guidelines indicate as best you can with them and are some tips to help you understand what you are doing? I have Italian relatives that they like to eat pasta, white bread and meat, I'm having a difficult time and find myself eating those foods sometimes, either to please or because I have very hungry and have been visiting for a while. Any suggestions? Peace and Light

What are some good Syrian foods?

I enjoy eating Syrian cuisine such as:
Kibbeh (especially raw)

Is there anything I could try you think I might like. I have heard of an eggplant lasagna but do not know the name of it.

Recipes for dogs anything will do?

I feed two of my three puppies raw or cooked food 100% of the time (the other one prefers canned food, kibble and chicken, I only use good quality canned food and kibble).
Well, someone just posted about good raw foods for their dogs, and I wanted to know some more recipes to feed my dogs.
Currently they generally get either a broth (mince, carrot, broccoli, sweet potato, peas, pumpkin) or yoghurt (lactose free) and berries or if I am lazy mince, kibble and canned dog food for all three (maybe, once a week).
Well, what are some other recipes I can try out for dogs?
And if you don’t have any, do you know any other foods I can introduce to the broth I make them or what you feed your dogs??

Feeding you dogs a variety of things that are not dog food per se will make it impossible to get them to eat what is good and balanced for them. Many dogs fed homemmade diets end up at the vet with deficiencies, some of which can be life threatening. Not good.

Doing this can also be life threatening in that someone else might not be willing to cook for these dogs, and God forbid anything should happen to you – they might not eat what they were fed. Anything like this can mean the difference between getting a new home, and not. Just something to think about, in case.

Recipes for 100% RAW food bars?

I really like larabars and would like to try to make my own. I have a food processor but I don’t have a food dehydrator. Any that you have made w/good results would be appreciated.
Farewell: do you add any water and do you mix them in a food processor?
Do they need to be refrigerated so they don’t mold?

Oats with water pressed to bottom of pan.
Chop dried apricots, dates, walnuts (3 cups)
Pure’ dried apricots and pour into pan.
Mix well.
Let sit in fridge.
Yummy!

How can I make myself like fish?

It’s supposed to be an excellent source of lean protein and Omega 3s. Not to mention, it would be wonderfully convenient if I could order a fish dish in a nice restaurant where I would otherwise order a white pasta smothered in alfredo…

problem is, I don’t like fish. Hate might be too strong of a word: I would probably eat fish if I were starving for more than a week on a deserted island and provided I had plenty of lemon to drown out the taste.

I’ve had sushi a couple times (against my will, and out of politeness) and I didn’t find the raw fish HORRIBLY unpleasant, but I couldn’t really taste it. And I’ve seen it prepared on T.V. in ways that look, theoretically, good, but then they are just pictures. I feel like I’m missing out on a whole realm of fish-delicious food possibilities.

I want to like fish, I really do.

But I don’t. How can I make myself change my mind?

Go with all the previous suggestions re masking it in a strong sauce until you’re used to it; definitely start with something like flake – it’s cheap (so you won’t be so upset if you don’t eat it all!), it’s fairly bland, and it’s fairly firm so you can cook it in a variety of ways.

I’d suggest finding a few recipes that you love with chicken – if you’re not much of a cook, start making some basic chicken-in-sauce recipes, eg. Thai green curry, which can be adapted easily to fish.

Italian-style food is also excellent for this: This is something I make as a quick, easy and cheap casual dinner if friends turn up:

Baked Mediterranean Fish:
Fish:
Olive oil
Firm white fish fillets, enough for however many people you’re serving
Jar pasta sauce – even the cheap stuff is OK, but the nicer the better, obviously
Olives – black or green, but I prefer black
Cracked pepper

Roast veggies:
Olive oil
Garlic cloves – about a head should do
Rosemary – fresh & stripped from stem is best
Sea salt & cracked pepper
Potatoes cut into thick slices
Red capsicum cut into thick strips
Asparagus
Cherry tomatoes
Balsamic vinegar

Fresh basil (optional)

Veggies:
Do the veggies first as the potato takes longest. Chop it however it works for you – I think it looks nice sliced into thick slices. Put it in a roasting pan, drizzle with olive oil and scatter garlic cloves, rosemary, salt & pepper on top – toss it all up with your hands. Put in oven as hot as you can get it so it cooks faster (250C is what most ovens reach) – check it & toss the potatoes every 10 minutes – I’m never sure how long it will take, but usually you can turn it down to 160 after about 20 minutes and toss the capsicum and asparagus in.

Fish:
Start preparing after you’ve put the soft veggies in. Spray roasting pan with olive oil. Lay fillets in single layer, season, dollop pasta sauce evenly over the top, scatter olives over top of that. Cover pan with tin foil. Put in oven, turn veggies while you’re at it, leave for 15 minutes. With about 5 minutes to go, put the tomatoes in and shake the veggies one last time. Everything should be done at about the same time.

Take everything out of oven, put the potatoes aside and sprinkle balsamic vinegar LIGHTLY over the veggies (make sure you don’t drench them, just want a hint of it and not enough to overpower the fish) and toss them. Add the torn basil at this point if you’re using it. Add the potatoes back in and mix them through just before serving so they stay crispy, or serve them separately – the vinegar risks making them soggy but tastes excellent with them too.

In summer you could skip the potato and use couscous instead, just chop the veggies smaller.

I wouldn’t even bother with tinned fish at first – if you don’t like fresh, mild-tasting fish I doubt you’ll like tinned tuna or sardines, which are oily and quite strong-tasting. Just stick with the mild stuff to start.
Try it with tartare sauce as well as lemon juice; try coating it in seasoned flour and pan-frying it then serving with roast root veggies and salad. Try it smoked – several varieties are readily available. Smoked salmon is a classic bagel topping of course, and you might not find it as hard to cope with in a small portion balanced out by bread and cream cheese. Also, if you’re into crackers or breads with cheese and dips, try picking up a smoked trout or smoked salmon dip – again, trying it in a different medium, rather than as part of a main meal, you might learn to enjoy the flavour, and then be able to extend that liking to eating actual fish portions.

Highly Processed: Cereal, dinner roll, Gatorade, hot dogs, pizza, goldfish (assuming you mean crackers, right, not actual pet fish?). Any grain-based food besides oatmeal and popcorn is going to be highly processed. Yes, even corn-on-the-cob has to be shucked, cleaned and cooked.

Moderately Processed: French Fries (precut, usually pre-salted and frozen, then deep-fried), London Broil (the cut of steak is a specific slice of meat from the butcher, cooked a specific way), Chicken Tenders (much like the fries, only breaded instead of salted), cheese (churned and cultured milk), bacon (specific cuts of pork, sliced and cured usually), 2 percent milk (the milk’s pasteurized and defatted, at least, and usually has vitamins A and D added).

Minimally Processed: Lettuce (rinsed or cleaned multiple times after picking, possibly frozen fresh to preserve freshness too), Peanuts (shelled, possibly roasted or salted).

Hope this helps. Yeah, you’re really not going to find “raw” foods anywhere, just foods that are less prepared than others. Even tuna in a can is minimally cooked to kill germs in the canning process–compared to the rawer stuff that goes in sushi.

Good raw meat to the kittens?

Hi, I have a kitten 8 1 / 2 weeks old, I was wondering what the raw meat can feed your i like to try? Usually she is in a food dry cat, but I want her to have some treats too. Is it too young to raw beef or tuna? Any advice is apriciate. AIT.

Any Meat should be fine, if prices in a short cut to her. (I wouldnt suggest letting to eat rats or mice, unless when he is older you want to find and kill them, it will get dirty and Grose) Do not leave your bones to eat. again, it should be 100%, if prices give bit, also do not give a lot of little peices at the same time, she could eat quickly and begin to drown. What foods do you miss the most being pregnant?

Another question made me think about it. I really miss the sushi and sashimi, raw oysters, a large sandwich smothered in spicy red peppers and spicy mustard, rare meat, and a good glass of red wine. Oh, but I'm happy i found coke without caffeine.

What are your favorite organic foods (not recipes)?

We’re moving in a few days, and when we move we’re going to try and eat natural foods.
So far I have tuna, organic/raw milk, black olives, granola nut clusters (are those good?), organic chocolate, olive oil, natural juice, and sea salt.

What are some other things? I’m not talking about recipes.
I think I saw organic macaroni and cheese (packaged) is that good?

3 – Better skin and slow signs of aging

4 – Reduction of a variety of digestive ailments

5 – Healing of illness and reduction in chronic diseases

6 – Weight loss and easy weight maintenance

Experts say that if you plan to begin a raw food diet, you should follow a plan designed by a doctor or expert in the field of raw food diets. It is very hard to get the right mix of nutrients, experts say, so following a prescribed eating plan ensures you get enough calcium and protein, in particular.

I can’t seem to find the balance of eating?

I’m 15.

Here’s a bit about the last year and a half for me:

I starved myself and lost a stone. I never put the weight back on.
I ate normally then starved myself further and lost another half a stone so I was 8 stone.

I keep eating as little as possible because when I do eat I feel tremendous guilt and I don’t deserve food. But then I get desperate after a week and binge. I ate 1500 calories before in half an hour. I’ve just binged again. What started out as a snack on a yogurt and banana ended up as 3 bananas, a cereal bar, 4 raw mushrooms, 3 yogurts.

Help?

Well, I guess not, you are wasting your time (and health) on starvation diets that DON’T work because they lead to mostly muscle loss, which lowers your metabolism. The exact opposite of what you want for burning fat. Why would you want to suffer (always being hungry and ruining your health) and not even get the results, when you could simply eat 5 healthy balanced meals a day and exercise, to lose all the fat you want (without suffering at all). This will lead to a healthy toned and sexy body every time and the best you will ever achieve on a starvation diet is a drawn out, sickly looking (albeit smaller) and still flabby body. People that starve themselves always still have that little ponch of fat around their mid section even though some of them get skinny. That doesn’t look good at all and isn’t the ultimate goal of losing weight to look better. Balanced healthy meals automatically keep everything balanced, because you won’t get low blood sugar levels (the direct cause of cravings for crap and binging).

Diet leads to cramps/stomach upset?

I am a vegan who loves, well, roughage. My diet consists of mainly home-cooked grains, legumes, dried nuts, raw vegetables, and fresh/dried fruit. I am an avid tea drinker (loose-leaf green tea usually, around 3 cups a day), and avoid more processed or starchier foods (potato chips, bread only occasionally, pita chips, etc.). I enjoy my diet very much, but I find that nearly every day I have some sort of stomach upset (slightly queasy, sometimes); I go number two less frequently, and when I do, I can end up in the bathroom for up to 15 minutes and it’s rather painful.

Will my body adjust to the amount of vegetables is consumes, or will I myself need to adjust (eat a little bread with my meals, etc.)? Thanks- sorry the subject matter’s kind of icky.

Your diet is definitely a lot healther than mine LOL

Maybe you can try Gas-X or some other related medicine for gas/nausea/bloating?
